David C. Hooker, 69, Hotchkiss, died Oct. 29, 2017, at his home.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heritage Hall at
the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; two sons, Will Hooker and
Shannan Schreiner; two daughters, Lynelle Schreiner, and Becky
Moon; one brother, Robin Hooker of Englewood; two sisters; and
seven grandchildren.

Dave Hooker (Little
Grandpa, Grandpa Hooker,
Papa) passed away peacefully
in his own home, surrounded
by his family on Sunday,
October 29, 2017, after a long
and courageous battle with
PSP.
A Celebration of Life
service will be held at 11:00
a.m., Thursday, November 2,
2017, at Heritage Hall, Delta County Fair Grounds, in
Hotchkiss, Colorado.
Dave was born on January 9, 1948, to the late William C. and
Alma Hooker in Denver, Colorado. He attended school in
Denver graduating from George Washington High school in
1966.
After graduation, Dave entered the United States Marine Corps
from 1968 thru 1969, where he received the Naval Achievement
Award. Dave served in Vietnam during his tour of duty. After
being honorably discharged, he moved to Granby, Colorado
where he began his childhood dream of being a rancher.
On June 20, 1970, Dave married Donna Roberts. In 1973, they
moved to the Hotchkiss area. He worked for various ranches in
the area, before managing Stirrup Bar Ranch of Maher,
Colorado from 1976 until 1991 raising commercial and
registered Herefords. In 1991, the Hooker’s bought their own
place on Spurlin Mesa and Dave continued raising registered
Herefords but gradually switched to commercial cattle.
He was involved in Cattleman’s, Clipper and Grandview
ditches as a board member and ditch rider, as well as being on
the Crawford Water Conservancy Board.
Dave was a school bus driver in the Hotchkiss area until 2010.
He was a member and Past Commander of the Lynch-Cotten
American Legion Post #190 Crawford, CO.
Dave enjoyed hard work, giving gifts, and making people
laugh, his family and especially his grandkids.
Dave is survived by his wife, Donna; children, Lynelle
Schreiner (Donny Rule); Becky (Randy) Moon; Will (Jen)
Hooker and Shannan Schreiner; grandchildren, Taylor and
Jacob Schreiner; Lee and Hayden Moon; Bryson, Rielyn and
Liam Hooker; brother, Robin (Joyce) Hooker of Englewood,
Colorado, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
