Ligne-Ruby Maria
Delahanty-Benson passed
away October 29, 2017, at St.
Mary’s Hospital after figting
many health issues She was
70.
Ruby was born September
27, 1947, in Bogota,
Columbia, South America.
She moved to New York City when she was a child.
Ruby met and married William Delahanty (who proceeded her
in death in 1990), and they and their two sons, George and
Richard, made a cross-country move to the Grand Valley in
1977. It was here that Ruby began working for the Grand
Junction Police Department as the Chief’s secretary. Ruby
worked at the department for almost 20 years. Ruby not being
one to sit still, went back to college and received her B.S. in
psychology.
Ruby met and married Merritt (better known at Yogi) Benson
on September 20, 2000, and had a wonderful 17 years of
happiness together.
Ruby was fluent in Spanish, and took every possible moment
to encourage her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren in
learning and/or speaking it as well.
She loved her music, and had an eclectic library of it, and
fighting could often be seen singing and dancing to it as well.
Smiley faces and trolls could be seen everywhere in her house,
and she never got tired of people "gifting" her one or the other.
Ruby’s smile was as engaging as those of her "smiley" faces,
and one could never forget her smile, or her energetic laugh.
Ruby was devout in her faith, and was always there to lend a
hand to anyone needing it. Her family was always her number
one focus, and she loved spending time with them as often as
she could.
She loved to cook, and had huge family dinners, especially
during the holidays, and would include anyone else who didn’t
have a place to go. She loved the outdoors and going camping,
and especially growing her own garden and herbs.
Ruby is survived by her husband of 17 years, Yogi; sons,
George (Cheryle) Delahanty of Palisade and Richard (Robby
Robertson) Delahanty of Clifton; step-son, Gary Benson of
Washington; step-daughter, Arna Benson of Delta;
grandchildren, Tristan Delahanty and Elizabeth Delahanty, both
of Grand Junction and Travis Cole and Tyler Cole also of
Grand Junction; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 1:00
p.m. on Saturday, November 4, at 313 W 6 Street, Palisade.
Arrangements entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home.
