Leo J. Harris, age 82, of
Loma, CO, passed away
October 6, 2017, at HopeWest
Hospice Care Center.
He was born April 6, 1935,
in Reed Springs, MO to
Johnny E. and Nancy Elvira
Harris. The family moved to
Colorado in 1940 and Leo
attended Palisade schools.
Leo married Mary J. Clark
in 1954. They had a daughter, Erlene, and a son, Lonnie. They
were later divorced.
Leo worked in construction and had his own business, Leo’s
Backhoe Service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiles,
motorcycles and rock hunting. He was so proud of Lonnie’s
motorcycle racing and attended all of his races.
Another great passion was raising animals. First were the
horses, brahmas, exotic birds and his favorite, the cats. It was
not unusual to see him and the mountain lion, “Cowboy” at a
local pub.
Preceding him in death are his parents; son, Lonnie; brother,
Otis, and brothers-in-law, Jim Hetherington and John Clark. He
is survived by daughter, Erlene Harris; sisters, Louise
Hetherington and Bea Harris; sister-in-law, Madonna Harris,
and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to your favorite animal shelter.
