Robert Louis Smith, 89, Grand Junction, died Oct. 18, 2017, at
Larchwood Inns.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Orchard Mesa
Cemetery.
He was a sheet metal worker.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie M.; one son, Lonnie L. of Grand
Junction; two daughters, Kathy Haldeman of Whitewater, and Debbie
Hagseth of Post Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Wanda Mae Crowley
of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Mary Lou Robinson of Sparks,
Nevada; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Robert L. Smith, of Grand
Junction, Colorado, passed
away on October 18, 2017, at
Larchwood Inns the Parc. He
was 89.
Robert was born in Elk City,
Oklahoma on December 25,
1927, to Robert Archie and
Anna Mae (Jarret) Smith. He
spent his childhood in Grand
Junction and attended Grand
Junction High School. Robert married the love of his life, Jackie
M. Smith, on April 25, 1945. He went on to serve 18 months in
the Merchant Marines and later joined the United States Army
in January of 1947. He served in the Occupational Army in
Tokyo with the Signal Service Battalion.
Robert was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
(VFW). He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed spending
time taking care of his small orchard and tending the family’s
large vegetable garden.
Robert is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jackie M. Smith;
son, Lonnie L. Smith, of Grand Junction; daughters, Kathleen
Haldeman, of Whitewater, and Michelle Hagseth, of Post Falls,
Idaho; sisters, Wanda Crowley, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware,
and Mary Lou Robinson, of Sparks, Nevada; seven
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in
death by his parents and his sister, Alma Ashley.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 26 at
1:00 p.m. at the Orchard Mesa Cemetery, 2620 Legacy Way,
Grand Junction, CO 81503.
