Ruth Messer, of Palisade,
lost her battle with COPD on
Saturday, October 14th, 2017.
She passed away peacefully in
her sleep at her home,
surrounded by her family. She
was 82 years old.
Ruth was born January
16,1935, in Boston,
Massachusetts. She lived in
Hamilton, MA and worked in
dentistry most of her life until moving to Grand Junction, CO in
1981 with her daughters, Dawn-Ray and Ruth-Ann, and her
mother Izetta Ray Messer. She worked as Activities Director in
the Alzheimer’s unit at Family Health West for many years
before taking employment at Diamond Shamrock from where
she would eventually retire.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and watching sports, especially her
beloved Colorado Rockies and Avalanche. She liked a good
game of Rummy too.
She loved time with her family most of all and was always
surrounded by grandchildren for whom she never missed a
birthday or big event. Ruth moved in with her daughter, Dawn,
and family 14 years ago, which is where she resided until her
passing.
Ruth is survived by her children, Thom Copp (Cindy) and
Ruth-Ann Jones (Jeff) of Grand Junction and Dawn Huff
(Anthony) of Palisade, as well as nine grandchildren. She is
preceded in death by her parents, Izetta Ray and Henry
Abercrombie Messer; brothers, Bob, Frederick, and Stuart, and
sister, Shirley.
Although she pulled no punches and had no fear of speaking
her mind, Ruth was quick-witted and loved to laugh. She will
always be remembered as our strong and loving "Nana".
