Louis Bruder, of Oak Creek, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 at his home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Track and Trails Museum or to the church of your choice in care of Grant Mortuary.

Louis Bruder passed away May 12, 2018 quietly at home, he was 93. Louis was born March 15, 1925 at Pinnacle, CO to Louis and Frances Paulovic Bruder, both born in Austria. He was raised in Oak Creek and graduated in 1943 from Oak Creek High School. Louis joined the Navy and served on the USS HYDE from 1944 to 1946 as an Electrician Mate. He was an excellent marksman, almost missed fighting because they wanted him to be a range instructor. Louis participated in the South Pacific in the landing on Iwo Jima and Okinawa, his fleet was in Tokyo Bay at the surrender of the war. Upon returning from the Navy, he started as a clerk with the Oak Creek Post Office, then Postmaster for 35 years, retiring in 1980. Louis then because substitute mail carrier and delivered mail until January 2018. He was also Town Clerk for 12 years. Louis belonged to the Lions Club and participated in building the Rope Tow for skiing. He was a lifetime member of the American legion. Louis enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, photography and skiing. He also loved going to Alaska over twenty years visiting his son Brian and working on the Salmon fishing site. Louis leaves his wife of 68 years Edwina Williamson Bruder, two sons, Darrell of Steamboat Springs, CO, Brian of Kodiak, AK, wife Kim, grandsons Robbie and Ting Ting of Rocklin, CA; Nephews Kevin and Kimber, Niece Melanie Houghton of Salt Lake, cousins Emil Matic (Cecilla) Santa Fe, NM. Mary Wallace of Pueblo, CO. Cremation has taken place with family burial in Oak Creek, CO. Memorials should be directed to the church of your choice or the Tracks and Trails Museum in Oak Creek in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, CO 81625.
