Derek William McBee July 27, 1971 - July 22, 2017
Derek William McBee, 45, of Grand Junction, CO, died by accidental drowning on July 22, 2017. Mr. McBee, a graduate from GJHS class of 1990 and a talented GJHS team soccer player, was an avid animal lover and worked in the Prison Dog Rehab Program to train and place unwanted dogs with families. He was a skilled dog trainer and passionate about the plight of unwanted cats and dogs. Mr. McBee, a US Army veteran, received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies of Legal Studies and Sociology from Adams State College in December of 2016, and had intentions of helping former inmates in transitioning to society in the area of advocacy and law. Mr. McBee is survived by his parents, Donald L. and Janis R. (Mason) McBee of Grand Junction, CO; sisters, Stephanie (McBee) Fowler of Colorado Springs, CO, and Deanna (McBee) Galanis-Cosgrave of Sandy Hook, CT, along with many cousins, aunts and uncles in the Grand Junction and surrounding area. He also leaves behind those friends from far and wide whose lives he touched and impacted throughout his life. Mr. McBee is described by many as a wildly intelligent man, one who fought for the underdog and a true and loyal friend. He will be missed. A memorial service will be held on August 26, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO in the Fellowship Hall.
