Gene R. Davis, 78, longtime resident of Steamboat Springs passed away May 16, 2018. A celebration of life will be held on June 24, 2018 at 1 PM at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Yampa Valley Cancer Center, 1024 Central Park Dr., Steamboat Springs, Colorado 80487. Arrangements are being handled by the Yampa Valley Funeral Home.

GENE RAMON DAVIS, long time resident of Steamboat Springs passed away May 16, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.
Gene was born in Seattle, Washington on 6/20/1939 to Harold and Helen Davis. He played football at Issaquah High School. His sister, Laurel McClintock of Seattle, Washington and his brother Reed Davis of Santa Rosa, California are his siblings.
Gene Davis joined his Father, Harold Davis as a part of Davis Logging of Preston, Washington in the late 1960’s -early 1970’s. This was a family affair with Harold and his brother Don Davis and their sons, Gene and Roger.
Gene served in the Military and was stationed in Arizona. He married his wife Lynn Davis and they were welcomed by two daughters, Nicole and Nancy.
When the logging business folded, primarily due to new Forest Service regulations, he went to visit his daughter Nancy Davis in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He came to ski, and stayed. Gene lived and played here in Steamboat for 25 years. He loved to golf at various golf courses wherever he traveled, but was a long standing member of the Steamboat Golf Club. He began Gene Davis Cleaning Services in 2001 and did commercial cleaning throughout town until he retired because of health reasons in 2015.
His quick wit, and sense of humor are remembered by so many. He always had a smile on this face and had a patient and calm presence about him. One of his favorite places to view, was Mt. Ranier in Washington. Every time he flew back to Seattle, he would see this mountain from the air. His activities included skiing, golfing, hiking, and anything outdoors. He loved the Seattle Seahawks. We remember him as the 12th Man.
Family: He is survived by his wife, Diane Davis of Steamboat, CO; Daughter Nicole Davis Henzke and her spouse, Len Henzke of Seattle, WA; Daughter Nancy Davis of Seattle, WA; Stepson Wayne Balis and his wife Allison Balis of Silt, CO; Stepson Shaun Howard of Steamboat, CO.
His grandchildren are Jack Henzke, 13 (who was born on the same day as his grandpa Gene, June 20th) of Seattle, WA; Clara Henzke age 11 of Seattle, WA; Chance Balis, Age 16, of Silt, CO.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Davis; His sister, Laurel McClintock, presently resides in Seattle, WA; and his brother, Reed Davis, presently resides in Santa Rosa, CA.
Some of his best friends from Steamboat were Skeeter Bourne, Paul Ferguson, Smokey Slaven, Randy Hall; along with Edgar Johansson of Denver, CO; along with so many friends in the community. Mountain Brew was his favorite coffee shop. He didn’t even have to order. He would walk in and just put up (1) or (2) fingers and they knew exactly what his order was.
He married his wife, Diane in 1997. Gene was the love of Diane’s life. He was that Knight in Shining Armor. Gene was the first man who treated her with kindness, support, patience and an unending love. They were married August 30, 1997. It would be 21 years in August. He will always reside in her heart as her prince.One of his favorite and special friend was Tio our little Jack Russell Terrier. He never wanted a dog, but once convinced to “get in the car” to go look at two little puppies, Tio licked his face and it was all over. They have been best buddies ever since. Tio still looks at the door waiting for him to come home.The Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487. Dr. Joanne Grace will officiate the service. The Service will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a reception immediately following.

Gene was a sober member for 38 years. He will be missed by so many.
