Ardelle George Simon May 12, 1947 - November 15, 2017
Ardelle Simon, 70, passed away at HopeWest Care Center on November 15, 2017. He was born on May 12, 1947, in Sturgis, South Dakota. He lived on a ranch with his parents, three sisters, and one brother. He went to school on horseback, herded cattle, fished for catfish, hunted, and trapped for furs. When Ardelle was 14 he moved to town to live with his oldest sister so he could attend high school. He worked at the local Piggly Wiggly grocery store in order to save money to buy his first motorcycle. He rode motorcycles from 16 to age 69. Rebuilding classic cars was another favorite activity. He met his wife, Judy, in Sturgis in 1967. They were married in 1968, and had three daughters and one son. Ardelle worked in the automotive field until 1992, and then as a correctional officer for the Meade County Sheriff’s Department in Sturgis. In 1966 Ardelle and his wife moved to Grand Junction, CO, where he continued to hunt, fish, and ride motorcycles. He had a motorcycle accident on August 1, 2016, resulting in a brain injury. He was then transferred to Larchwood Inns in October 2016, until his final transfer to the Hospice Care Center in November 2017. He made many friends there, and the staff took excellent care of him. He is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Doug Simon; daughters, Darshann Weinick, Renae Medill, and Kelly Turner; brother, Darrell Simon; sisters, Bonita Even, LaVonne Symonds, and Loretta Bachand, and six grandchildren. Services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1. Contributions can be made in memory of Ardelle to HopeWest, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or Larchwood Inns, 2845 N. 15th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
