Steamboat Pilot and Today - June 19, 2018

Christopher passed peacefully at his home in Utah surrounded by loved ones. He had battled stage 4 brain cancer for nearly nine months and was 60 years old. Chris was born in Los Angeles to Helen and Henry Thompson. He attended the Harvard School for Boys and went on to college at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he admittedly spent more time on the mountain than in the classroom. His fondest boyhood memories were of his summers spent at Gold Arrow Camp where he would discover a love for nature and the great outdoors. There he was taught to camp, horseback ride, sail, water ski, fish, hike, shoot and more. After college, he moved to Steamboat Springs, CO, where he made enduring friendships and skied his heart out. Later he would move to Brian Head, UT, where he built his first house. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and friends who became like family, Chris made a life for himself where he could be constantly outdoors and a stone’s throw from the ski slopes he loved. An avid hiker, expert competitive shooter and brilliant when it came to anything mechanical, automotive or technological, Chris was always full of life and ready for a conversation. Heartfelt thanks go out to his Utah friends who were there for him throughout his treatments, providing the care and loving support he needed every day. He was blessed to be surrounded by people who loved him in a place he loved so much. In addition to dear friends in Colorado and Utah, as well as his long time companion Kathie Sack, Chris is survived by his younger sister Diana Tomei (Jeff), niece Emily and nephew Jack. He also leaves behind extended family and friends in Los Angeles and Orange County.
