Jack Romick, 89, of Routt County passed away May 30, 2018. A celebration of his life will take place 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Brent Romick Rodeo Arena / Howelsen Rodeo Grounds.

Jack Romick, aged 89, died peacefully in his home near Oak Creek Colorado May 30, 2018.
Jack was born John Edward Romick, November 7, 1928 in Rawlins, Wyoming to Charlotte and Ralph Romick. Jack graduated from high school in Rawlins in 1947 and was a member of their State Championship football team. Jack was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1950 and then into the U.S. Army reserve December 12, 1952 where he served as a Medic on the front lines in the Korean Conflict. Jack was honorably discharged from the Army September 21,1956.
Jack married the love of his life Janie (Betty Jane) Eyre April 4, 1953 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After marrying Janie and leaving the Army, Jack attended the University of Wyoming where he majored in Agriculture and was the President of the University of Wyoming Rodeo Team.
Jack's first job was at the age of twelve working at the Sun Ranch near Devils Gate Wyoming. Later, Jack began working at Western Nuclear Energy Fuels during the founding of Jeffery City, Wyoming. Jack began his ranching career managing ranches for Robert W. Adams. First in Wyoming then later moving to manage a ranch outside of Kremmling, Colorado. Jack and Janie left ranching for a few years and opened Romick's Western Wear where Jack could sell his handmade saddles. Later, they opened The Hoof and Horn, a local bar and restaurant for which Jack and Janie are remembered fondly today. In 1967, Jack and Janie moved to Steamboat Springs to the Rehder's ranch in Pleasant Valley just below Rabbit Ears Pass. They lived in the what was known for many years as the Red House on Rabbit Ears Pass and is now know as Bella Vista. Jack learned to ski at 39 and worked first running a lift then as a Ski Patrolman. Jack and Janie left the Valley for a few years to run their own cattle in California returning in 1992 to retire to Oak Creek. In recent years Jack could usually be found at the rodeo where he enjoyed watching one of his favorite pastimes.
It was hard for Jack to tell his family that he loved them but never hard for him to show them how much. Jack will be missed for his warmth, generosity and wry wit. Ever ready with a joke he was a hardworking gentleman, cowboy, rancher, saddle maker, storyteller and good friend who loved his family and especially his wife Janie.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Charlotte and Ralph Romick, sister Nancy Jean Wolf, and infant grandson Colton Romick.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Janie. Also sons: Lance Romick and wife Mary (Knowles), Brent Romick and wife Joan (Ryan), Jace Romick and friend Gretchen Herrero, Kent Dawkins and friend Cheryl Oliver. Granddaughters: Carley Romick, Sierra Romick, and Addison Romick. Grandsons: Treat Romick, Dalton Romick and wife Catie (Martin), and A.J. Romick. Great grandchildren: Little Brent Romick and Jaycee Jo Romick. As well as many nieces and nephews. But especially by his dog Bud Light.
There will be a celebration of Jack's life and gathering of his many friends 1:00pm Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Romick Rodeo Arena Steamboat Springs.
