On December 16, 2017, at the age of 87, Deletha entered through the pearly gates of heaven to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Marlow, Oklahoma, on December 12, 1930, to Charles and Edith Roundtree. She was the next to the youngest of seven children. She had one sister and five brothers. Deletha grew up in Marlow until 1945, when her family moved to Cortez, Colorado. She fell in love with Paul McNew, the young man that lived across the street. He saw in her that she was quite a “catch” and decided he couldn’t live his life without her. On December 28, 1946, at the tender ages of 16 and 18, they “eloped” to Aztec, New Mexico, with their mothers as their witnesses Paul and Deletha moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1953. For 31 years they owned and operated Paul’s Truck Wash and Service. Together they planted Baptist Churches in Grand Junction, Parachute, and Rifle. Deletha enjoyed cooking for family dinners and spent many years in the kitchen, serving God by preparing meals for various church functions. She also served God by participating on various church committees and making beautiful floral arrangements for the church. She had a way of making everything beautiful. She loved to sew; making all of her own clothes and quilts for everyone around her, including families in foreign countries. She loved to garden, planting an extensive vegetable garden and various flowers every year. Deletha was a great artist and enjoyed decorative painting. Paul and Deletha were married 70 years before Paul passed away in February of 2017. She was his beloved wife, mother of Robby (Connie) McNew and Becky (Rick Delk); a cherished grandmother to Tanya (Rory) McNew Cornelison, Andrew McNew, Tasha McNew, Michelle (Richie) Delk Hahn, Chad Delk, and great-grandmother to Jacob Hahn, Bryce Hahn, Megan Hahn, Isabella Cornelison, and Natalie Cornelison. Deletha’s youngest brother, Bob Roundtree of Gladewater, Texas, survives her. A celebration of her life will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 395 31 5/8 Road, on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.
