John Olof Spendrup January 15, 1930 - January 6, 2018
John Olof Spendrup died January 6, 2018, from natural causes. John was born in Ludvika, Sweden, January 15, 1930, to Louis and Margarette Spendrup. He made it through the sixth grade that he took twice. His father said that John knew everything already anyway. He left home at 14 to work on a farm in northern Sweden, then at 18 he immigrated to the U.S. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951-1955. He was stationed in Texas, and was an engine mechanic on the B-36. After being honorably discharged, he and a friend went prospecting in Colorado and ended up in Grand Junction. John met Deloris Cloyd and they were married. From this union they had two sons, Quentin and Trent, and he had a stepson, Earnest Graver. He started Spendrup Fan Company in 1968, and began selling fans to the uranium and coal mines in the area, and then on to the whole U.S. and Mexico. He sold the company in 1994 and started his new career in Real Estate, buying properties around Grand Junction and Utah. He continued running his business till a few months ago before his death. John is survived by his son, Trent (Leslie) Spendrup; daughterin-law, Mary Spendrup; grandkids, Jens Spendrup, Emily Spendrup, Aubrey (Dustin) Wells, and Zeb Spendrup; and three great-grandkids, all of Grand Junction. He is preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Spendrup; son, Quentin Spendrup; companion, Lenora Hefner; step-son Earnest Graver; parents; sister; and brothers. A memorial service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, January 13 at Callahan Edfast Mortuary.
