John A. "Joe" Ellis
Joe Ellis, 94, passed away on January 31, 2018, at HopeWest Care Center, surrounded by his family. Joe was born in 1923, in Delta, Colorado, to John and Carrie Ellis, the youngest of four sons. He graduated from Delta High School. A WWII veteran, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and served in the European Theater until the end of the war. Joe married Lenora "Eve" McDonald in 1946; they had three children, Myndie Wright, Preston Ellis, and Shauna (Kenny) Raff. Eve, Preston, and all three of his brothers preceded him in death. They moved to Grand Junction in 1966, where he worked for several auto dealerships, including Central Chevrolet, Fuoco Motors, and Simpson Auto. Joe and Eve spent many happy summers on Grand Mesa, where Joe was known to hike Crag Crest Trail once or twice a week. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Judy Bowen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 3888 27½ Road, in Grand Junction, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to HopeWest, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
