Lyman Monroe Wallace, of Palisade, CO, went to Heaven on February 26, 2018. He was 90. Lyman was born in Tribune, MO to Roy Oliver Wallace and Eva Alice York Wallace. The family moved to Lewis, Kansas in 1930. After the death of his parents, Lyman and his brother, Lyle, were fostered by Harry A. and Margaret Talbott, then living in Dodge City, KS. The Talbott family returned to Colorado in November 1942, bringing Lyman and Lyle with them. Lyman attended Palisade High School and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1945. After graduation, he joined the Army, serving with the US occupation forces in Germany. Lyman returned to Palisade and purchased a peach orchard on East Orchard Mesa. He married Kathleen Fullmer on September 26, 1948. Over the years, Lyman and Katy were known for their hospitality and found many outlets for Christian service. In 1950, Lyman was recalled to active duty, stationed at Ft. McCoy, WI, then returned to Palisade to farm and raise a family. Lyman was an active member of First Baptist Church of Palisade for 75 years. He loved to sing, often solos, at church, weddings, and funerals. He also sang with the Bookcliff Barbershop Harmony Chorus for many years. For a time, Lyman volunteered for the East Orchard Mesa Department, serving as a fire chief for a while. In addition to farming, he worked for five years at Climax Uranium Mill in Grand Junction. In 2013, Lyman was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for the Western Colorado Horticulture Society. In 2016, he participated in the oral history project for the Palisade Historical Society. His life story can be seen at the Society’s website. Lyman was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents; sister, Juanita, and brother, Lyle. He is survived by daughters, Nancy Alexander of Grand Junction, and Juanita (Randy) Timmerman of Firestone, CO; son, Galen Wallace of Palisade; brothers, Harry C. Talbott of Palisade, and Ross Talbott of New Castle, CO, and sister-inlaw, Roma Talbott Myers of Boise, ID. Lyman enjoyed being grandpa to five grandchildren, Tito (Tronette) Alexander, Mea (Jim) Quackenbush, Jeffrey (Eryn) Alexander, Ryan Timmerman, and Megan Timmerman, and seven greatgrandchildren, Hayden, Elijah, Oliver, James, Celeste, Wesley and Whitney. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018, at First Baptist Church, Palisade. Memorial donations may be made in Lyman’s name to First Baptist Church, Palisade, or HopeWest Hospice, Grand Junction. Arrangements have been entrusted to Palisade Funeral Home.
