John F. Stein, 89, Grand Junction, died Nov. 23, 2017, at Mantey Heights Care Center. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Martin Mortuary. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado. He was a power plant supervisor. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; one son, Keith of Steamboat Springs; two daughters, Debra Wayland of Grand Junction, and Toni McDonnell of Lakewood; one sister, Mary Hurst of Westminster; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions to a charity of one’s choice.

John F. Stein January 24, 1928 - November 23, 2017
John F. Stein, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away on November 23, 2017, at the age of 89. He was born on January 24, 1928, in Lamar, CO to Frank and Louise Stein, and grew up in Horse Creek, WY with one brother and two sisters. He graduated from Johnstown High School, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served in WWII. John was a beloved husband of 67 years to Evelyn J. Cameron, and married on December 30, 1950. John retired to Grand Junction after a 30 year career with Public Service as a Maintenance Supervisor. He enjoyed being social and was highly devoted to God and his family. He enjoyed roaming in his fifth wheel, spending time at his and Evelyn’s property near Gunnison and extensive traveling. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and card player, especially pinochle. Survivors include wife, Evelyn Stein; sister, Mary Horst; children, Debra Wayland (Steve), Toni McDonnell (Mark), and Keith Stein (Donna); grandchildren, Justin Mauler, Caesey Wayland, Joshua Ferguson, Erinne Keller, Chelsea McHugh, and Whitnea McDonnell, and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Martin Mortuary at 9:30, with service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017, followed by interment at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
