Richard Dean McMillen, 87, Grand Junction, died March 29, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church. He was a grocery executive. Survivors include one son, Thomas of Huntington Beach, California; one daughter, Rebecca Wood of Grand Junction; one brother, Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and four grandchildren. Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 522 White Ave, Grand Junction 81501; or to a charity of one’s choice.

Richard Dean McMillen November 22, 1930 - March 29, 2018
Richard Dean McMillen passed away March 29, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, he was 87. Richard was born on November 22, 1930, in Scottsbluff, NE from the union of LeRoy and Ora McMillen. He spent his childhood in Scottsbluff, Ft. Laramie, WY and graduated from Ft. Collins High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 and enrolled in Military Administration School. He was sent to Los Alamos, NM to work in the scientific lab and later discharged in May of 1953. He met Verna Grenz in Rapid City, SD in December, 1954 and they later married on February 25, 1956, in Eureka, SD. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2009 in Grand Junction, CO. Richard was a Sales Manager for Pacific Fruit & Produce before working for City Market in 1964. He retired in 1992 as an executive Vice President. He was a Grand Junction resident for 54 years and had previously lived in Rapid City, SD, Pocatello, ID and Salt Lake City, UT. The last four and one half years of his life were spent at the Atrium (now known as Solstice Senior Living at Grand Valley) where he was considered a resident ambassador. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Welcome Center in Fruita, CO and the Gray Gourmet. He enjoyed his Bridge groups and traveled to many places around the world. Friends, family and travelers will remember how he always had a smile and warm greeting for everyone. Richard leaves behind son, Tom (Jill) McMillen of Huntington Beach, CA; daughter, Becky (Jim) Wood of Grand Junction, CO; brother, Paul McMillen of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren, Andy Wood of Denver, CO; Lisa Wood of Salt Lake City, UT; Dillon McMillen of San Francisco, CA, and Siobhan McMillen of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond, Thurmond, and Darrell and sister, Marge. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Easterday-McPadden officiating.
