Charles C. DuCray January 10. 1940 - March 29, 2018
Charles "Chuck" DuCray was blessed with a peaceful passing from a well-lived life. Chuck faced life with energy, enthusiasm, and an everpositive attitude that helped conquer life’s challenges while always keeping those around him smiling. Born January 10, 1940, in Grand Junction, Colorado, Chuck was raised on a cattle ranch in Collbran, Colorado, by C. Harrell and Genevieve (Jennie) DuCray. He was forever grateful to them for the life they provided him and for teaching him the love of family, of the outdoors and of horsemanship. He graduated from Plateau Valley High School in 1958, and proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1960-1964. Chuck extended his love of family to create Mountain Region Corporation. His years of experience, along with family and employees who became friends, created a life-long bond for everyone. His love for horses and the outdoors, embodied the spirit of the Old West. Chuck was a Gold Card member of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Posse. He served as President of the Posse, as well as Chairman of the Colorado Stampede PRCA Rodeo, and worked with the Posse on many projects to serve the community. Chuck represented the Mesa County Posse well in the annual state convention, enjoying the pistol shooting and team roping competitions. Chuck lived his life to its fullest, working hard and playing harder. He was happiest with his family, at team roping events, or just visiting with his many friends. He spent winters team roping with friends in Arizona who enjoyed it as much as he did. Every spring he looked forward to returning to his friends in Colorado for ropings or just reminisce over coffee. This fun-loving man left our world with a legacy of teasing, love, laughter, and truly caring about others. Chuck shaped our lives and hearts with his spirited love for life. Chuck is survived by Sandy, his wife of over 50 years; son, Kent and wife Mary, and son Brent and wife Cheryl; grandchildren, Jennifer, Harrell, Paul (Jessica) and Josh (Crista); four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday, April 5, 11:00 at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Posse for the Mesa County 4-H Council, P.O. Box 1386, Grand Junction, Colorado 81502.
