Earl Dean “Joe” Newitt, 80, Collbran, died Jan. 21, 2018, at Eagle Ridge of the Grand Valley. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3076 E 1/2 Road. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. He was a maintenance scheduler for Public Service of Colorado. Survivors include his wife, Lanell; three sons, Mark of Grand Junction, Shane of Collbran, and Todd of Colorado City; three daughters, Connie Ferguson of Mesa, Shari Newitt of Anchorage, Alaska, and Amber Balanzar of Grand Junction; two sisters, Ruby Hodson of Grand Junction, and Bettie Muhlestein of Payson, Utah; 20 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Earl Dean "Joe" Newitt January 25, 1937 - January 21, 2018
Earl Dean Newitt, known as “Joe”, returned with honor to his Heavenly Father, Sunday morning January 21, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born January 25, 1937, to George and Minnie Pearl Newitt in Bingham Canyon, Utah. He was raised and attended school in Fruita, CO. Joe married his sweetheart, Lanell Duke, on June 3, 1956. Together they had raised eight children, 20 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Joe was known as Grandpa, Dad, Bishop, Santa, and friend. No matter his title, he had love for all and left a wonderful impression on everyone. His hobbies were motorcycles, music, fishing, hunting, and especially spending time with his family. Joe was employed by Public Service Company of Colorado, and he was a Rancher in Plateau Valley. He served with Hospice as a Chaplain for ten years. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Harold (Corky), Ray, Glen, and John. Joe is survived by his wife, Lanell of Collbran, CO; sons, Mark (Tamee) and Shane of Grand Junction, CO, and Todd (Patti) of Colorado City, CO; daughters, Connie (Scott) Ferguson of Mesa, CO; Shari of Anchorage, AK, and Amber (Enrique) Balanzar of Grand Junction, CO; sisters, Ruby Hodson of Grand Junction, CO, and Betty Muhlestein of Payson, UT; 20 grandchildren; and 19 greatgrandchildren. The sorrows of his departure will be met with joy when he sees his friends and loved ones on the other side. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3076 E ½ Road, Grand Junction, CO, officiated by Bishop Brett Redd. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, CO. In lieu of flowers, please designate all donations to HopeWest Plateau Valley program, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
