Steamboat Pilot and Today - September 11, 2018

Marc Sehler was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1954 and grew up in Drayton, ND. His family moved to Littleton in the mid 60's and he graduated from high school there. He moved to Steamboat Springs and began teaching skiing in winter of 1979-80. He married Gretchen Schneider in 1988, and they recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

Marc lived for for bicycling and skiing. He was a multi-time winner of the Town Challenge and participated in numerous other bike races. He started with road biking and later drifted more to mountain biking. Marc found another passion in wanting more mountain bike trails available for everyone. He and Gretchen have designed, built, and maintained an incredible legacy of trials in Steamboat.

Marc taught skiing at Steamboat Springs Resort for nearly 40 years. He had a devoted following of people who returned annually to enjoy skiing with him. As an educator, he was fun, subtle and insightful. He longed for snow and especially powder every year and greeted each ski season with childlike enthusiasm.

Marc loved living in Steamboat and enjoyed the mountain lifestyle. He and Gretchen have been owned by several Aussies over the years, most currently Eme (Emerald.) Marc knew and felt the warm arms of his Steamboat family. His calm and kind demeanor will be missed.

Please join Gretchen in a celebration of Marc's life on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the top of the Gondola. Those who want to bike to the venue should meet at Billy Kidd's statue at 7:30 am. Loading on the Gondola will begin at 9 am and the memorial will begin at 9:30 am. Please park at the knoll and bring a lawn chair to sit in.
