Catherine Helen Balducci Halvorson passed away March 17, 2018, at the age of 93. Catherine was born in Galveston, TX to Geno and Cecelia Balducci. She had a brother, Geno, and a special bond with her sister, Joann, and brother-in-law, Frank Macaluso. In 1943, while attending a dance at the Officer Club in Galveston, she met Lt. Dan Halvorson. Dan and Catherine married prior to him deploying to serve in WWII. In 1947, their beloved daughter, Sharon, was born. A second daughter, Mary, was born prematurely and passed away. The family moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1954. Catherine and Dan’s daughter Sharon married Larry Vaughn in 1968 and they continue to live in Grand Junction where they raised three children. Catherine will be remembered for her dedication to faith, family and friends. She devoted her life to God and faithfully served as a member of American Lutheran Church. Catherine served as a Sunday school director and teacher, as well as participated as a Choir member for approximately 50 years. She was also actively involved in the community. She enjoyed bowling and playing bridge with friends. Catherine’s biggest love was to spend time with family. She had three grandchildren, Kerri Vaughn Bensley (Brian), Katie Vaughn Kleager (Jimmy), and Todd Vaughn (Alexi); and eight great-grandchildren, Kayla Bensley, Jaelyn Bensley, Gage Kleager, Jackson Kleager, Jedidiah Kleager, Ashton Vaughn, Fischer Vaughn and Marley Vaughn. Catherine was very proud of her daughter, Sharon, and the success she has had as a Realtor for Coldwell Banker Vaughn/Clark Group. Catherine enjoyed being a part of each of her grandchildren’s lives. Whether it be going to gymnastics meets, track meets, wrestling matches, dance competitions, or hosting pool parties at her home, Catherine was dedicated to loving and caring for family. She also shared a special relationship with nieces, nephews and cousins, all whom were very dear to her heart. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Catherine’s family will remember her as "a tough woman who would persevere through everything." Though she had medical challenges, she always pushed the extra mile, never gave up and always had a bigger and better purpose to live. We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Phil Mohler and Dr. Andy Mohler for the years of medical support provided, as well as to Jolene Ferguson, for her love and care. We would also like to thank HopeWest for their care and family guidance. Memorial donations, in memory of Catherine, can be made to HopeWest, 3090B North 12th Street, 81506 or American Lutheran Church, 631 26 ½ Road, 81506. Services will be held at American Lutheran Church on Friday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. with burial at VA Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Viewing will be at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary from 6 - 8:00 on Thursday, March 22, 2018.
