Beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, friend and longtime western slope resident Pauline Anna Goodson passed away March 14, 2018 at HopeWest Hospice, Grand Junction, CO following a brief illness. She was born April 10, 1930, to Paul and Anna (nee Noll) Mikelkewich (later changed to Mikels) in Chicago, IL. Pauline’s parents divorced when she was very young and her mother remarried Frederick Kingma in 1935. Pauline Kingma graduated in 1948 from DeMotte High School, DeMotte Indiana. She was one of 19 graduating seniors. She moved with her parents to Olathe, CO early in 1949. Shortly thereafter, Pauline met the love of her life, Lowell "Smokie" Goodson while attending the Olathe First Baptist Church. They were married August 7, 1949. Pauline was a gifted baker and due to a local baker not quite baking a cake up to snuff, she baked and decorated her own wedding cake for the occasion. The couple honeymooned at Yellowstone National Park and then resided in Delta, CO. Their son, Robert William, was born March 31, 1953 in Montrose. The couple were avid supporters at sporting events that "Bobby" aka "booboo" participated in. Pauline was a "Jill of All Trades". She was a fabulous cook, seamstress, candy maker, baker, artist, yarn art expert, listener, supporter, hostess, "outdoorsman", gardener, farm hand while growing up in Indiana, and so many other things. For a short time, Pauline and Lowell owned and operated the "Palisade Café" where her baked french fries were a hit with the local student population. She also was a camp counselor at the Baptist Church Camp on the Grand Mesa and was known as "Aunt Polly". Pauline was employed at various places throughout her life to include the Marmot sporting goods manufacturer while it was located in Grand Junction, Russell Stover in Montrose, as well as a cook/chef at the Navajo Mission in Farmington, NM. Pauline was no stranger to sightseeing and travelling all over the United States. She and Smokie made many trips to visit their grandchildren when the children lived in Nevada, North Dakota and New Mexico. She visited her adult grandchildren while they resided in Oregon, Texas, Florida, and California. Pauline lived every day of her life with a deep love of Jesus and shared his love and teachings with her friends and family. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell, and her beloved son, Robert. She is survived by her grandchildren, Angela Hummel of Dixon, CA; Carrie (Dave) Rogers of Farmington, NM, and Matthew McGraw of Grand Junction, CO; great-grandchildren, Leigh Anne and Jayden Hummel of Abilene, TX; Merckx and Lance Thrower of Farmington, NM; daughter-in-law, Beth (Jerry) Sims of Farmington, NM; nieces, Lynda Freas and Patricia Cockroft, and great-nieces, Nicole and Whitney Cockroft. Services have been entrusted to Brown’s Cremation & Funeral Services. A service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens, Grand Junction, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Pauline’s name to a charity of the donators choice.
