Maureen Ann Johnson, 69, passed away March 22, 2018, in Grand Junction, CO. She was born July 1, 1948, to Patrick and Beatrice "Boots" Gant, in Platte, South Dakota. Maureen attended country school in Geddes, SD. Maureen was selected as the South Dakota State Hereford Queen in 1965, and spent the year representing the South Dakota Hereford Cattle Association with her dad, Pat. Her future husband, Mike, who swore he’dnever marry or fall in love, met Maureen in a town called "Faith". She was a home economics teacher in South Dakota, and fell for the California surfer boy. They moved to Los Angeles, where they had two daughters, Jamie and Jenifer. They took their business to Colorado in 1986, and moved the family to Grand Junction in 1991. There is not one person that met Maureen that wasn’t affected by her huge heart and her mischievous laugh. She was always laughing, making jokes, and playing tricks on her grandkids. She will be missed every day, and every time you smell strawberry-rhubarb pie or banana bread, we hope you think of Maureen. She is survived by her husband, Mike; daughters, Jamie (Shawn) Montgomery, and Jenifer (Matt) Lawrence; brothers, Mike Gant, Mark Gant, and Dennis Gant; sisters, Nancy Gant, Patrice Mushitz, and Sheila Boyd, and grandchildren, Brooklyn Montgomery, Makenna Montgomery, Cooper Montgomery, Doran Lawrence, and Tanner Lawrence. Visitation will be Saturday, March 24, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary from 1 - 5:00 p.m. Services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary on Monday, March 26, at 10:30 a.m., with burial following at Crown Point Cemetery in Grand Junction. In lieu of traditional flowers, the family is requesting live plants that can be planted in Maureen’s honor, or contributions can be made to Mesa County 4-H, PO Box 4828, Grand Junction, CO 81502.
