Darrell Norman Stewart, 90, Fruita, died March 22, 2018, in Grand Junction. Private family services are planned. He was a security guard. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Kelly; two sons; one daughter; one brother, Jerry Farrington of Tucson, Arizona; one sister, Penny Powell of Fruita; and two grandchildren. Darrell Norman Stewart was born November 15, 1927, in Eagle, Colorado. He spent most of his childhood on a large ranch in Sweetwater. Darrell spent his WWII days as a chauffeur and security guard for General Byers, under the direction of General Macarthur. He also was responsible for transporting and caring for General Macarthur’s son, Arthur, and other family members. He was very proud of his military days and took his duties seriously. Upon returning from military service he married his first love, Dorothy Schroder, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He and his family moved to Leadville, where he worked as a security guard for Climax Molybdenum mine and retired after 31 years. After retirement he moved to Fruita, Colorado. His hobbies were old cars, family history, dancing, and his great love of music. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years. Darrell is survived by his loving partner, Marjorie Kelly. Additional survivors include two sons; one daughter; two granddaughters; sister, Penny Powell; brother, Jerry Farrington (Judy); sister-in-law, Barbara Stewart; many nieces, nephews, and friends, and Marge’s family. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, Claude and Thelma Stewart, and three brothers. This kind and gentle man will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Graveside services will be held at the Gypsum Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to HopeWest.
