Honey Lee French September 21, 1935 - April 25, 2018
Honey Shane Lee walked this earth for over eight decades, and left it peacefully, early Wednesday morning, April 25, 2018, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she lived near her youngest daughters for the last 14 years. Prior to Colorado Springs, she was a long-time resident of Paonia, Colorado. Honey Lee was born on September 21, 1935, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She grew up in the Dallas County area, the middle of three children, and the only daughter. She still has a large extended family in Texas. She contributed to her communities as a masterful business owner, bookkeeper, storyteller and historian. Her life’spassions included her dog, CoCo, traveling, reading, writing poetry, dancing and spending time in her beloved Rocky Mountains. She was an outstanding hunter, archer, wilderness guide and high diver, but her greatest joy came from gathering with family and friends. Also known as Peggy Lee French, she was preceded in death by her parents, Larry Lee and Iris Ostein; brothers, Terry Hines and Neil Ostein; and her second child, Donnell Lee Roberts Sandidge. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Robbie and Gwen Sandidge of Grand Junction, Colorado; Julia Sandidge and Duane Noriyuki of Eugene, Oregon; Karen Sandidge and Nelda Dettwiler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Shannon Sandidge and Barbara Bennett of Denver, Colorado, and Gaynelle Ihms, her dearest friend/niece of North Carolina. As Grandma Peggy, she was blessed with six grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Allison Sandidge of Breckenridge, Colorado; Michael and Katy Sandidge of Loveland, Colorado; Nichole and Ted Lee of Cumming, Georgia; Dustin and Dana Sandidge of Debeque, Colorado; Tyson and Jessica Sandidge of Debeque, Colorado; Rhiley and Levi Ethridge of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Rhuby Noriyuki of Eugene, Oregon; Christine and Mic Wolfer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Nathan Sandidge of Denver, Colorado. She was honored to greet 15 great-grandchildren, Austin, Sydney, Jaxon Sandidge; Blake, Elliana and Emery Lee; Allyson, Abram, Andrew and Aubrey Sandidge; Trenton, Grier, Wesley and Marcus Sandidge, Keean and Tahlia Ethridge. If she has her way, there will be many more to come. She was the center pole of an enormous clan and also served to guide many nieces, nephews, step-children, children of choice and dear friends. A celebration of life will be held in Paonia, Colorado on June 16, 2018 from 2 - 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 40772 Lamborn Mesa Road, Paonia, Colorado 81428. The family will provide a BBQ meal, soft drinks and water. If you would like to bring a special dish to share, please feel free to do so. BYOB. In lieu of flowers, she asked that you please cherish time with your family and spread her love and light.
