Red Cliff Lad’s Body Returned From Korea

Mr- and Mrs. Aristo Rodriguez of Red Cliff have been notified by the Defense Department that the body of their son, Pfc. Samuelßqdriguez who died in Korea, is. tajtte' Returned to the States for buraßr The 21-year old Red C®tf soldier was killed February 12, 1951 and is the only Eagle county boy known to die in the Korean war. He was a graduate of Red Cliff Union High School, and is the son of an Empire Zinc Company miner at Gilman. He is survived by two sisters and one brother and his parents. Memorial services will be held for Pfc- Rodriguez, according to word from Rod Cliff yesterday, but definite plans will not be made until it is known when the body will arrive in the states. Burial will probably be in a military cemetery at Ft. Logan, near Denver.

Pfc. Sam Rodriquez Buried In Denver

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR COUNTY’S ONLY WAR DEAD .Memorial services were held in Denver, Sept. 20 for Pfc- Samuel Rodriguez, the only man from Eagle county to give his life in the Korean war. Pfc. Rodriguez was born in Glenwood Springs, Colo. March 20, 1930 to Mr. and Mrs Aristo Rodriguez. He attended school in Gilman and later moved to Red Cliff, where ho graduated from high school in 1947. He enlisted in the Army Oct- 18,' 1948 and was honorably discharged a year later. During his training he was stationed at Ft- Ord, Calif, and at Ft. Benning, Gain October he was recalled to service and stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash, for a few weeks, before being assigned to overseas when he was sent into the Korean war zone. He was killed in action February 12. 1951 in South Korea.

The Memorial services were held at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Denver Thursday, with Father Bruenig officiating. Mr£ic was provided by Mr. Joseph O’Neil, soloist accompanied by Mrs. Mary McGlone organist- Funeral arrange,ments were under direction of ©linger Mortuary and interment was in Denver National CemeteryCasket escorts were Sgt. Solomon Trujillo. Jr., Jacab Martinez, Jr., Arthur 'Martinez, Gabriel Pacheco, Robert Gusman and Edwafd Duran. The father. Aristo Rodriguez is an employee of the Empire Zinc Company at Gilman, with 20 years service in the company.
