Corrine Varitz Romero of Loveland, Colorado passed away at 89 years on March 24, 2018 from cancer.
Corrine was born in Los Angeles, California on May 9, 1928 to Tony and Mary Varitz. Her childhood was spent in California with her sister Carolyn and brother William. The family moved to Oregon in 1942 where she graduated from high school in 1946. She attended Pacific University graduating with a Journalism degree in 1950 and met her future husband. Corrine and Ernest F. Romero were married on September 6, 1952.
They moved to Salida, Colorado and raised their 3 children Claudia, Marguerite and Ernie Jr. Corrine helped her husband with his optometric practice, was active in the First Presbyterian Church, school accountability committee and PEO, as well as other organizations and committees. After 39 years in Salida, Corrine and Ernie moved to Canon City in 1993 and then to Grand Junction in 1996. Her husband passed away in 2000, and a year later Corrine moved to Loveland to live with her daughter, Marguerite.
She was a member of PEO Chapter GC (PEO provides scholarships to support education for women locally and internationally). She loved gardening, cultivating plants (she could take a stick and get it to grow), attending performing arts, watching golf, cooking, and visiting friends and family.
Corrine maintained a positive outlook and met challenges head on with optimism. She was a kind person greeting everyone with a smile. Her appreciation of others was acknowledged with a simple and genuine thank you. In the same way that she cultivated plants, she cultivated friendships and relationships. She said she lived a good life and was appreciative of all that built each memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ernest F. Romero, parents, Tony and Mary Varitz, sister, Carolyn Leuthold, sister-in-law, Estelle Austin, mother-in-law, Della Romero, and nephew-in-law, Dave Holt.
Survivors include brother, William (Marge) Varitz, daughters, Claudia (Wesley) Jones and Marguerite Romero, son, Ernie Romero, brother-in-law, David Leuthold, nieces, Geri Gerry, Janet Leuthold Holt, Cosette Varitz, nephew, Johnny (Sarah) Leuthold, and grand nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on April 3, 2018 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 400 E. Fourth Street, Loveland, CO 80537 at 10:00 a.m. Attire can be colorful to celebrate Corrine’s love of flowers in her garden of life. A reception will follow at the church. A family burial will be held in Trinidad on April 4, 2018 in a family service.
Memorial contributions can be sent to PEO Chapter GC for their scholarship program in care of Kibbey- Fishburn Funeral Home or a charity of your choice.
