MINTURN ENGINEER DIED IN SALIDA AT AGE OF 80.

Funeral services were held April 23 for Charles Rush of Salida, who served the Rio Orande 51 years before he retired in 1938 as a locomotive engineer. Death was due to a heart ailment. Born in St. Louis, Mo., April 291869, Mr. Rush came to Salida with hos parents in 1878. His first railroad experience came when he spent a summer vacation as a track walker on the long-abandoned Calumet branch. He also worked with a surveying gang seeking a route for the Colorado Midland in 1886. In 1887, Mr. Rush entered Rio Grande service as a roundhouse laborer at Leadville. He was promoted to fireman and in 1892, to engineer. He lived in Binturn for some years and served on the school board in that community. He aided in establishing a high school there. IN 1912 he was a candidate for lieutenant governor. Surviving are his wife, Minnie; a son, William S., deputy district attorney of the judicial district im which Salida is located and two grandsons. x
