Steamboat Pilot and Today - September 24, 2018

Harry Robert (Bob) Brokaw passed away peacefully September 21st, 2018. Bob was born July 9, 1937 in Fort Dodge, IA to William and Edna Brokaw. Bob served in the Army for two years and had joyful memories of lifeguarding in Washington and driving an Army tank. After his service was completed he enrolled at Simpson College in Indianola, IA where he met Anne Seyb, who eventually became his loving bride of 57 years. In 1972, he fulfilled his childhood dream of living in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Because of his easy-going attitude, honesty and integrity, he quickly made a name for himself selling real estate. Many people claimed Bob was the first friendly face they met when they arrived in Steamboat. While living in Steamboat, Bob enjoyed the outdoors, skiing, jogging and socializing. He was active in Kiwanis, a member of the Board of Realtors and a devoted member of Steamboat Springs United Methodist Church. Bob was well loved by the community and admired by many. He eventually retired to Sedona, AZ where he enjoyed hiking the beautiful red rocks, playing golf and volunteering for the Sedona Humane Society. Due to declining health, he and Anne moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 2016. Even though Alzheimer’s robbed him of his memory, he remained positive and loving until the day he died.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Edna Brokaw, and his brother Bill Jr. Bob is survived by his devoted wife Anne, his brother Richard (Connie), sister-in-law Jerita, his loving children Blake (Julie) Brokaw, Beth (Dave) Maiwurm, and the joys of his life, his grandchildren Blythe, Hunter, Maddie, Molly, Teddy and his best four-legged friend, Buffy. In lieu of flowers, the family would request a gift in Bob’s honor to be made to one of the following charities: UMOM New Day Centers (formally United Methodist Outreach Ministries) 3333 E. Van Buren Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008

Or Home Fur Good (a no kill animal shelter) 10220 N. 32nd Street Phoenix, AZ 85028

There will be a small family service at Paradise Valley UMC on September 29th. According to Bob’s wishes, we will be having a celebration of his life in Steamboat in the summer of 2019.
