Betty Fitzpatrick October 15, 1924 - April 24, 2018
Betty Fitzpatrick was born to Irma Pearl and William Crawford Tanner inMontrose, Colorado. She attended school in Montrose until her junior year when she moved to Nucla, Colorado, to live with an aunt and uncle. She graduated from Nucla High School as Valedictorian in 1942. Betty attended Ross Business School in Grand Junction. Her first job was as a secretary for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph. Betty married Karl Fitzpatrick in Bryan, Texas, on January 29, 1944. They were divorced in 1977. She lived in Texas, Wyoming, and Fort Collins, before moving to Palisade. She resided there for 25 years, enjoying her yard and flowers, her children’s activities, and being active in the Palisade United Methodist Church. Betty moved to Grand Junction in 1978, where she landscaped the yard in her new home. Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction, where she was active in United Methodist Women, Joy Circle, and served on many committees. She was a member of Altrusa International, volunteered at the Nine Health Fair, spent many hours volunteering at the Colorado Welcome Center in Fruita, and was a member of Chapter CD, P.E.O. Betty retired as a loan officer after 29 and one half years with the US Bank, where she processed student loans for many young people. During WWII she worked at Texas A&M College, the Signal Office at Camp Barkley, Texas, and the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Dispatcher’s Office in Grand Junction and Salida, Colorado. After the war, she was the secretary to the manager of Public Service Company in Fort Collins, while her husband attended Colorado State University. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Max Stites of Grand Junction; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Molly Fitzpatrick of Sylvania, Ohio; sister, Marjorie Ferguson of Clifton; grandchildren, Shannon Wytulka (Jay) of Grand Junction; Aaron Stites (Victoria) of Denver; Evan Fitzpatrick (Aneri) of Seattle, Washington, and Alan Fitzpatrick (Kinzie) of Toledo, Ohio; great-granddaughter, Ellie Wytulka, of Grand Junction; cousin, Malcolm Wilson (Loris) of Grand Junction; nieces and families, Lorea Jones (Bob) of Delta, and Staci Adleman (Rick) of Grand Junction, and nephew, Robert Tanner of Madison, Tennessee. Her brother, William Henry Tanner, preceded her in death. Betty is remembered for her beautiful smile, her kind heart, her kind and soft-spoken personality always thinking of others before herself, and her ability to accept what life dealt her and make the best of it. She had an interest in the world, people, music, art, sewing, books, the beauty of nature, gardening, and most of all, her family. Her belief in God and serving others defined her. Services will be May 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction with Pastor Stephen EasterdayMcPadden officiating. The family would like to thank caregivers at Grand Villa and HopeWest for their kind and loving care, and the many friends whose visits and cards brightened her days. Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Music Fund, 522 White Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81501, or HopeWest of Grand Junction. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Montrose.

Betty Fitzpatrick, 93, Grand Junction, died April 24, 2018, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center. Services will take place at 2 p.m. May 19 at the First United Methodist Church. She was a loan officer at US Bank. Survivors include one son, Gary of Sylvania, Ohio; one daughter, Vicki Stites of Grand Junction; one sister, Marjorie Ferguson of Clifton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 522 White Ave., Grand Junction 81501.
