Evelyn Sue Apple November 3, 1942 - May 18, 2018
Sue Apple, a resident of Grand Junction since 1980, passed away at the Hopewest Palliative Care Center on May 3, 2018. Sue was born on November 3, 1942, to Dale and Geraldine Blain in Santa Monica, CA. She married Harry Apple on February 6, 1965, in the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica. Although she had a degree in journalism from California State Northridge, she wanted to be a stay-at-home wife and mother. She was happiest having a home with lots of pets and children. Sue and Harry had three children, all born in Santa Monica, Christine and Keith Countryman of Olathe, KS; Dale and Diane Apple of Novato, CA, and Ken and Tabbitha Apple of Fruita, CO. In 1980 Sue and Harry moved their family to Grand Junction where Sue had room to raise chickens, rabbits, ducks, and geese along with assorted cats, dogs, ferrets, hamsters, and snakes. She was in her element. For several years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother and in later years she was so proud when several of her Cub Scouts went on to earn their Eagle ranking. Since 1992 Sue has been raising birds, and at one time she had several hundred birds in her home. She had her own business, Sue’sExotic Birds, and was known around town as the bird lady. She was always excited when she was approached by someone who had visited her and remembered her birds. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Harry; three children, Christine, Dale, and Ken; three grandchildren, Liz McCullough, Becca Brumley, and Sam Apple; and a great-grandchild due in September. She has five step-grandchildren. There will be a visitation on Thursday, May 24, from 5 - 8:00 p.m., at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, followed by a graveside service on Friday, May 25, at 10:00 a.m. at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Sue has asked that donations be made in her memory to Roice Hurst Humane Society, 362 28 Rd, Grand Junction, CO 81501 or Hopewest Hospice, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506 .
