Carroll LaVerne Ely November 3, 1933 - May 18, 2018
Carroll LaVerne Ely, 84, of Grand Junction, died on May 18, 2018. He was born in Boise, Idaho on November 3, 1933, to Lawrence and Marjorie Ely. Early in Carroll’s life, the family moved to Colorado where many fond memories were formed. Carroll attended Grand Junction High School. He worked as a milkman for Crescent Creamery for many years. He also was a salesman for C.D. Smith, National Laboratories, and later worked as a manager for Western Implement for more than 30 years. Dad had many wonderful friends. He never knew a stranger and was always quick with a smile, a story or a joke. He loved to get out on his four-wheeler and see the beauty of the Colorado country. He loved golfing and with a smile would say, "Play it where it lies." He was always busy tinkering in his yard and had a knack for building unique treasures from "parts and pieces" that he collected. He was meticulous in his work. His pet companion, Mac, kept him company and brought many smiles and love to his life. He is survived by daughter, Robin Ely (Connie Olson) of Fruita, CO; sons, David Ely of Palisade, CO, and Steve Ely of Boulder, CO; sister, Twyla (Brian) Park of Broad Run, VA; step-daughter, Terri (Dustin) Shepardson of Fruita, CO; stepsons, Drew Pelton, of Boulder, CO and Seneca Shayne Pelton of Mountain View, CO; lifelong friend, Sandra Altland of Palisade, CO; three grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Marjorie Ely; sister, Betty Hann; brothers, Dale Ely and Lowell Ely; and his loving wife, Debbie Ely. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 10th, 2018, at Chipeta Golf Course, 229 29 Road, Grand Junction, CO, from 4 - 7:00 p.m. There will be a short memorial service followed by time together to share memories of our time with this wonderful man. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to HopeWest Hospice, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, Colorado 81506.
