Russell Lowe Crick May 10, 1945 - April 10, 2018
On May 10, 1945, in Montgomery, Alabama, Robert and Irma Crick welcomed a curly redhead son, Russell "Rusty" Lowe into their life, where he took the world by storm and never looked back. Rusty spent his childhood in Missouri. In 1961, his dad took a job with the Forest Service in Delta, Colorado, and they settled in Hotchkiss, Colorado. Rusty graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1963, and in September that year he joined the United States Air Force. In 1964 Rusty married his high school sweetheart, Agnes. After 13 years and much traveling, including one year in Greenland and a tour in Vietnam, the family settled in Grand Junction, Colorado, where Rusty became the Air Force recruiter. He retired after 20 years of service and became the women’s volleyball coach at Mesa State (CMU). During this time, Rusty earned his Bachelor’s degree at Mesa and a Master’s in Secondary Education at Western State. Rusty attended Bookcliff Baptist from 1977 to present, and enjoyed fishing, golf, and family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Agnes; three children, Deborah (Stu), Bobby (Dawna), and Cindy; six grandchildren; four brothers, and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. Celebration of his life will be Saturday, April 21, in Brownson Arena at CMU at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to either HopeWest, 3090B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or the Rusty Crick Volleyball scholarship fund c/o CMU, 1100 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
