Former Gypsum Postmaster Ruby Schroeder, 91, died this week in Littleton, Colo. A memorial service is slated in Denver Thursday at 2 p.m., at the Horan-McConahey Mortuary on Parker Road.

Schroeder was born on Aug. 10, 1914, in Stillwell, Okla. Her family moved to Gypsum when she was a small girl.

She graduated from Eagle County High School in Gypsum in 1932, and attended business school in Colorado Springs for two years.

She married Henry Schroeder on March 8, 1936, and they celebrated 60 wedding anniversaries together until his death in 1997.

Ruby Schroeder served as the Gypsum Postmaster for 32 years. She was active in the community. Schroeder was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Gypsum. She enjoyed playing bridge, and was a long-time member of the Gypsum Methodist Church.

Her green thumb was evident in her garden, flowers, and neatly-tended yard.

Upon retirement in the 1980's, the Schroeders moved to Heather Gardens in Denver. They traveled frequently, and enjoyed attending the school and sports activities of their grandchildren. Schroeder filled her free time with porcelain painting, and cross stitch projects. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.

The last three years of her life were spent at the Sunrise Assisted Living Facility in Littleton.

Schroeder is survived by her son, Jack, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Cards and condolences may be directed to Jack Schroeder at 7696 Windwood Way, Parker, Colo. 80134. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Osteoporosis Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
