Josephine M. (Serpe) Guilinger November 10, 1924 - May 13, 2018
Josephine M. (Serpe) Guilinger died, at the age of 93, at the Brookdale, Arvada Colorado Retirement Facility on May 13, 2018, of advanced Alzheimer’s disease. She was the only child of Hector Serpe and Estelle Domenico and was born in Denver, Colorado on November 10, 1924. Her parents moved to Canon City, Colorado around 1930, and Josephine completed 12 years of schooling there, receiving a diploma from "The Academy", an all- girls Catholic High School in June, 1942. She and her parents returned to Denver later in 1942 where Josephine became employed at the May Co. Store in downtown Denver, in their accounting department. She later attended the University of Denver majoring in accounting on a scholarship from the May Co. She later met Robert R. Guilinger at a Catholic Youth Organization Dance in Denver in early 1951. Robert was a member of the U.S. Air Force, then stationed at the former Lowry AFB in Denver. Robert and Josephine were married at St. James Catholic Church in Denver on June 21, 1951, following Robert’s completion of a training course at Lowry AFB. Robert was shipped overseas in August, 1951, and was assigned to a RAF Station near Chester England. Josephine was able to join him near the RAF Station, and their oldest son, James R., was born at an English Maternity Hospital in Birkenhead England in 1952. Robert and family returned by ship to the U.S. in February, 1954, where he was discharged. He and Josephine and their son then moved to Denver where Robert obtained employment with the U.S. Geologic Survey. Then, later with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, followed by being hired by Union Carbide Corp., covering a 30 year span in Colorado, Wyoming, Arkansas, and Texas mining locations. Josephine and Robert had three children, James R. (Dianne); David R. (MaryAnn), and Ann E. (deceased), with a total of eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was loved and is survived by her husband of 66 years and their children. She had a very pleasant disposition and all agree she never raised her voice at anyone, including Robert. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Services have taken place. Contributions can be made in Josephine’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
