Lifetime Delta, Colorado resident, Jim Shea, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Crossroads Assisted Living Center in Delta. He was 86 years of age. A vigil service will be held from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2018, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Delta with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30 with Father Dick Haldane, Jim’s nephew, officiating. Interment will follow at the Delta City Cemetery. Jim was born on May 3, 1932, to John and Nellie (Ryan) Shea in Delta. He was the last surviving child of John and Nellie. He graduated from Delta High School with the Class of 1951. During high school he was an accomplished athlete competing in track and field, boxing and football; he received a football scholarship to Mesa State. Jim married Addie Hendricks on May 29, 1954, in Delta. Jim’s parents were the first couple to marry in St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Jim and Addie were the last couple of his generation to marry at St. Michael’s. Jim was an accomplished farmer of sugar beets, barley for Coors and corn and hay. He built and operated Shea Dairy. Jim served on the Wells Fargo Board of Directors both locally and nationally. He also served on the Production Credit Association Board and USDA Board for many years. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and an occasional trip to Las Vegas where he always seemed to have good luck. He also enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Grand Mesa, spending time with friends and dancing. He was a lifetime member of the Elks. He was also a person full of compassion, love and wanted to take care of everyone. Jim was very proud of his Irish heritage. Jim is survived by his children, Kelly (Kim) Shea and Teri (Larry) Cockroft, all of Delta; seven grandchildren, and 12 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nellie Shea; ten siblings; wife, Addie Shea; son, Scott Michael Shea, and daughter, Debbie Jo Ryan. Jim’sfamily suggests memorial contributions to be made in his memory to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 628 Meeker Street, Delta, Colorado 81416.
