Joseph Boyden Alexander, age 96, passed peacefully away at HopeWest, Grand Junction, Colorado, July 16, 2018. Joe was born to Granville Monroe and Fairye Silvia Cox Alexander on April 11, 1922, in Curlew, Nebraska. The family settled on California Mesa in 1927, where Joe spent the rest of his life. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1941 and was often heard quoting that his favorite subject was "ditching class." He joined the Army during WWII, served in the Philippines and was a part of the occupying troops in Japan. On April 21st, 1947, Joe eloped with his sweetheart, Maryann Stites, and was married in Gallup, New Mexico. They were married for 71 years. Joe farmed for numerous years on California Mesa and was an independent mail contractor with the US government for over 45. He served as President of the Colorado Independent Contractors’ Association, and received the prestigious Eagle Spirit Award, in recognition of Excellence in Service, from the United States Postal Service. Joe and Maryann had four children, Dr. Jeri Jo Alexander, Teri Lea Alexander, Granville Mark Alexander, and was preceded in death by his daughter, Keli Ann Alexander. He has two grandchildren, Arienne Ann Hasto Huff and Carl Craig Hasto, and four great-granddaughters, Alexa Nelle Huff, Kylie Nicole Huff, Brianna Clair Huff, and Gwyneth Lea Hasto. Visitation will be at the Taylor Funeral Home on July 22, 2018, from 2 - 4:00 p.m. A memorial service, in celebration of Joe’s life, will be held at Taylor Funeral Home, 682 1725 Road, Delta, Colorado Monday, July 23, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Olathe Cemetery following the memorial service for friends and family. A reception will be held at Daveto’s Italian Restaurant, 520 Main Street, Delta Colorado at 4:00 p.m. for all that knew him.
