Kathleen Sue Smith March 17, 1956 - April 14, 2018
Kathleen Sue (McKittrick) Smith died unexpectedly at home on April 14, 2018, at the age of 62. Born March 17, 1956, in Denver, CO to William Eugene and Marjory Lucille (Snow) McKittrick. Kathy was the youngest of seven children. She grew up in western Colorado and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1974. She married the love of her life, Steven Smith, on June 25, 1983. Together they traveled throughout the western United States following the booming construction industry. They settled in the San Luis Valley where their only child, Courtney, was born. A short time later the family moved home to Grand Junction where they currently reside. Kathy loved animals and gardening. She was happiest with her hair pulled back and hands in the dirt. Raising Courtney was another one of Kathy’sgreat joys in life - until her grandchildren were born. She loved them fiercely and took such joy in watching them grow. Kathleen is survived by her husband of nearly 35 years, Steven, of Grand Junction; her only child, Courtney Baker (Brian); grandchildren, Ellie (5), Carter (4), Wyatt (2) and Amelia (9 months) all of Ogden, Utah; sisters, Janice Zobel (Chuck), Carol Martin (Eddie), Patti Gazzoli (Bill), all of Grand Junction, and brother, Dick Kholer (Cathy), of Big Horn, Wyoming, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, William; mother, Marjory; sister, Nancy McKittrick Temple, and brother, Micheal McKittrick. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, April 19 at Brown’s Funeral Home, 904 N. 7th Street at 11:00 a.m. in Grand Junction. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to HopeWest Hospice.
