Kitty Halene Dobbs August 21, 1932 - June 23, 2018
Kitty Dobbs, age 85, passed away peacefully at her Paonia home on June 23, 2018, following a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by husband, Dave, their four daughters, one grandson and two great-grandsons. Kitty Halene Holcomb was born August 21, 1932, in Eddy, OK, to Elmer and Keturah Holcomb. At age 16 she met Dave at a square dance, and they have been dancing through life ever since. They were married October 7, 1950, in Salem, AR. In 1959 she and Dave, a lifelong U.S. Postal Service employee, moved with their four daughters to Golden, CO. Kitty was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She worked for Montgomery Ward in Golden and Grand Junction, CO, but her main occupation was as a domestic engineer raising their four daughters and maintaining their beautiful home. Kitty loved to travel, but more than anything she loved stream fishing beyond anybody’s dreams and even taught her grandkids how to fish. In 1980 Dave and Kitty moved to Paonia, where Dave was appointed Postmaster. She dedicated 40 years to the youth and women’s groups of her church. She was also a member of the Red Hats Society chapter in Yuma, AZ, where she and Dave made their winter home following his retirement. Kitty was preceded in death by her parents, and foster brother, Pug Kite. She is survived by her loving husband, Dave; daughters, Sharon (Don) Boettcher of Lakewood, CO; Davie Ann (Wes) Westlake of Aguanga, CA; Brenda (Tom Argon) Mills of Westminster, CO, and youngest daughter, Keturah (Mike) Larum; 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren (and another on the way); five great-great grandchildren (and one more on the way), and sister, Bonnie Bridges. She also leaves behind a huge circle of family and friends. Arrangements are under care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory in Paonia. Services are Saturday, July 7, at 2:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church of Paonia, 307 Onarga Ave. Pastor James Gall will officiate. Memorial contributions to HopeWest, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416. The family gives special thanks to HopeWest, and to all of their great neighbors for their support.
