Thomas Boita April 21, 1921 - September 9, 2018
The Great Gramponi departed this life on September 9, 2018, at the age of 97. He was born in Loma, Colorado, on April 21, 1921, to Lucille Lorenzatto Boita and Tom Boita. He grew up in Loma, Glenwood Springs, and Canon City. After graduating from Canon City High School in 1939, he worked various farm and ranch jobs on the Western Slope of Colorado until enlisting in the US Marine Corps in August 1942. He served in the South Pacific until receiving his honorable discharge on January 23, 1946. He then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. After leaving there he worked jobs in the mining and industrial fields of Colorado, Utah, and California until entering into duty with the US Geological Survey as an Illustrative Designer in 1953. He was married on June 28, 1949, to Doris Dale Harrison, and they had two children, Karen Gayle (Rob) and Thomas Edwin (Mary Jo). He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Doris; his twin brother, Tony Boita, who only lived a few days; and also by brothers, Lindo and James Mussatt. He is survived by his older sister, Lena Boita Davenport; his son and daughter; grandchildren, Amanda, Carson, and Colter, and greatgrandchild, Alexandria Jane Boita. To say that he was one of the finest human beings ever created would be vastly understated. He was father and friend, mentor and teacher, touching so many lives that they cannot be counted. His legacy of Love is immeasurable and carries on forever. We are so grateful to Carolyn and Kayren and their staff at the Willows for giving us and our Papo a comfortable space to spend our last days together. He was requested that donations in his name be made to HopeWest. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. And, as he would say... "Here’s Lookin’".
