The sunlight of our world has dimmed with the passing of our very beloved Betty Ruth Samuel. Betty Ruth passed away September 13, 2018, in Grand Junction, CO. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of countless people. Betty was born on April 5, 1938, in Denver, CO to Lora Belle Sorrow and Willie Dean Smith. In 1956, she graduated from South High School in Denver, CO. Betty Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Carl William "Bill" Samuel in 1958. Together, they shared 65 years of love from high school on through a tremendous journey of life raising a great family and enjoying many friends along the way. From El Paso, TX to Salt Lake City, UT to Pascagoula, MS, to Grand Junction, CO, Betty volunteered and taught us all the importance of selflessness. She leaves behind a legacy of love, giving, and, most importantly, enjoying life! Betty is survived by her loving husband, Carl William "Bill" Samuel of Grand Junction, CO. Together they raised four beautiful and wonderful children: daughters, Susan Lynn (Garry) Van Eerden of San Clemente, CA; Vicky Jo Samuel of San Diego, CA; Kathryn Leigh Samuel of Salt Lake City, UT, and son, William "Billy" Michael Samuel of Grand Junction, CO. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Rodolfo Steven (Shea) Bonilla, Sarela Ruth Bonilla, and Conner James Samuel; great-grandchildren, Kage, Trace and Ella Bonilla; as well as brothers and sisters, Donald (deceased), Bo (deceased), Piker, Martha and Donna. A viewing will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. at 2515 Patterson Road, Grand Junction, CO. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 840 N. 11th St., Grand Junction, CO 81501 on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, with Reverend Michael Redeker officiating. Viewing and visitation will be held one-half hour prior to services. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.
