JOHN B. SMITH DIES IN CANON CITY.

Pioneer Of Eagle County Was 102 Yeas Old — One Of Last Veterans Of Civil War.

J. B. Smith, one of the pioneers of Eagle county in the Avon district, died at his home in Canon City Saturday, Dec. 30. Mr. Smith was one of the prominent citizens of the county during his residence here. He moved to Canon City about 30 years ago, but is well remembered by all of the older residents of the county still living here. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the Civil war with the Union forces, and was one of the soldier guards at Gettysburg when President Lincoln made his immortal speech. He was the last member of the Greenwood post, G. A. R., of Canon City. Mr. Smith was 102 years old when he died.
