Cedaredge, Colorado resident, Glenn M. Schlather, passed away peacefully at his home on September 16, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 73 years of age. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Eckert Presbyterian Church. Glenn was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 28, 1945, to Marvin and Marcella (Ludwig) Schlather. When Glenn was 13 years old, his father passed away. He helped the family by working as he could with school. He graduated from Texas Tech University on August 24, 1968, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Exxon immediately hired him and gave him leave to fulfill his military commitment. After finishing his military training in 1969, he was deployed to Vietnam in June 1970. In October 1970, he assumed command of the 149th Light Maintenance Company. He was relieved from active duty in April 1971 and returned to Houston, Texas to resume employment at Exxon. He spent the next few years in the Army Reserve. On November 26, 1977, he married the love of his life, Nancy Lauren Dunn. Glenn’s career at Exxon spanned 34 years. He helped design, build and commission the first production facility on the North Slope of Alaska, as well as the first tension leg facility, "Lena", in the Gulf of Mexico. He was also the manager of the Monterey Pipeline in Louisiana. Glenn finished his career at Exxon as a Senior Technical Advisor in New Orleans. Glenn retired from Exxon in 2001. Upon retirement, Glenn and his wife, Nancy, moved to their "Grand Views Ranch" in Cedaredge which was purchased 25 years prior. He stayed very busy at their new home planting over 100 trees and bushes improving the wildlife habitation on the property. Glenn also was a very humble, honest, sincere man who was an excellent son, brother, husband and friend. Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy Schlather; sisters, Virginia Prifogle and Nancy Thielman, and nephew, Wade Thielman. The family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Glenn’s memory to HopeWest Hospice, P. O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416 or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory. View the internet obituary and sign the online guest registry at www.taylorfuneralservice.com.
