R . J . Spotswood Dead
Col. Robert J. Spotswood died Sunday at his home in Littleton , at the age of 71 years , says the Yampa Leader. About four years ago he,purchased the Hawley hotel at Wolcott , and conducted it us a resort for fishermen for a couple of seasons . While he was there many of the people of Routt county became well acquainted with him.
Col . Spotswood was a pioneer in Colorado having lived in the west since 1858. He was an express messenger and later division superintended of the old Overland Stage. After that for many years owned and operated the Colorado Stage company , running stages from Denver to Colorado Spring, Canon City, Fairplay and Canyon City.
He leaves a widow , one son and a married daughter.
