Wanda "Charlene" Lampe, who passed away from cancer at age 77, on September 20 in Kingman, Arizona, was born March 2, 1941, in Fruita, Colorado, to Charles and Wanda Bird. She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1959. Charlene’s greatest joy in life were her two sons. They were her best friends and her greatest advocates. The Denver Broncos, fishing, camping, traveling, music, and animals all delighted her. Mostly, however, she loved all of her family. Her sense of humor and never-ending smile were contagious and won friends easily. Charlene is survived by sons, Anthony Martinez (Mary) and Michael Martinez (Laurie), and her brothers and sisters, Genevra VanGundy-Shal, Sonny (Sherrie) Bird, Bill (Shari) Bird, and Sandi (Bob) Cameron. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Anthony’s daughter, Angela and Michael’s daughters, Crystall, Justeen and Chelsea; nine greatgrandchildren, Preston, Patrick, Summer, Logan, Emma, Keianna, Keith, Avalee and Hunter; her partner of many years, Eddie Powell, and her dog, Lucy. A graveside service will be held in Fruita, Colorado, at the Elmwood Cemetery, October 12, at 10:00 a.m. For those who wish to give gifts of remembrance, please consider the ASPCA.
