Willis H. Staup, son of W. T. and Sovella Staup was born Aug. 18, 1895 at Whitewater, Colo. The family moved to Gypsum In 1908, where they operated the Gypsum Hotel. Willis ran the first garage and shipped In the first autos to Gypsum. He was Inducted In the Army Oat. 2, 1917 and most of his Army service during World War I was in France and Germany. He received his discharge Apr. 29, 1919. On Christmas Day, 1919, he was united in marriage to Pearl Mitchell and to this union were born four children. Mr and Mrs Staup homesteaded on Gypsum Creek, living there several years before they sold and returned to Gypsum. He was an electrician forthe|Eagle River Electric Co., and ran Ithe company’s power plant on Gypsum Cre:k for 11 years then returned to farming Heir a short time. He then became Standard Oil bulk plant agent, retiring in 1958. Mr. Staup was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Harvey and Barbara; a brother, Lewis; a sister. Myrtle Bonah; a grand son and his wife Pearl, who died Aug. 29, 1958. In September. 1959, he was married to Mrs Velma Ashcraft at Montrose. They spent most of the past winter with his sister, Mrs Raye Kroll in California, returning a short time prior to his death Mr Staup was a member of the First Christian Church of ’Grand Junction: a member of American Legion Post 150 and at one time member of the 40&8, Lions Club and lOOF Lodge. He entered Valley View Hospital May 16 after suffering a heart attack and passed away May 18 at the age of 64 years. He is survived by his wife, Velma; a son, hfg/tp of Brighton; a daughter, Serena Vine of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; a sister, Raye Knoll; nine step-child-ren. Interment' was in Cedar Hill Cemetery under auspices of American Legion Poet 160, Gypsum, May 23. Bowman Mortuary of Eagle was funeral director.
