The retired grocery store owner, Carlton Leo Stewart, 79, died at his home in Gypsum, March 13. Born March 17, 1894 at Dotsero, Stewart spent his childhood in the area. He lived in Dotsero, Sweetwater and Gypsum area all of his life. He operated the Gypsum store and locker for 21 years and ranched in Sweetwater Creek.
Stewart married Doris Thompson at Saint Antony, Idaho, on October 21, 1925. His wife survives him.
Stewart's parents were Colorado pioneers. His sister, Audra, was first white baby born in Eagle County. He was a member of the Eagle Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Leewis of Los Alamos, NM and Mrs. Shirley Gable fo Anchorage, Ala., and two sisters, Audra Pickett fof Rifle, CO and Maude Musick of Los Angeles, Cal.; four grandchildren
Services held March 18 at Gypsum Methodist Church, burial at the Chedar Hill, Gypsum.
