Jack Mitchell Stewart died March 5, 1979 of cancer in his home in Billings, Montana. Jack, age 55, was born in Grand Junction, Colo, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Caude Stewart. He spent his childhood in Sweetwater and Eagle. Entered the Navy in 1941 and involved with all the Pacific invasions up to Iwo Jima. I 1944 he became an instructor a the submarine base at Pearl Harbor. He was one of the first four Navy men to discharged in Hawaii after V.J. Day.

In 1944 he married Viola Evans in Reno, Nevada.

Survivors include his wife, his stepmother Mrs. Phoebe Stewart of Grand Junction; two sons, Leland of Lake Havasau, Ariz. , and Richard of Laurel, Mont., three brothers, Darrell of Leadville, Leland of Gypsum and Marvin of Greeley; a half brother of Jerry Farrington of Fresno, Calif., a half sister Penny Merriett of Grand Junction. Cremation took place in Billings, March 6. Remains partialy scattered over Single Peak and rest buried with his grandfather in Dotsero,
