Forrest "Butch" Gray: 1922-1994
Former Craig resident Forrest N. "Butch" Gray, 71, of St. David, Ariz., died May 16,1994. He was bom in Thornburgh on Sept. 17, 1922. He was the son of W.A, and Verdie Gray. He attended school in Thornburgh and high school in Meeker. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard patrol torpedo boats with one year of duty in the South Pacific. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the service in November 1945, he returned to Colorado to work in the oil fields on Wilson Creek outside of Meeker. From this point, he completed 44 years and 11 months of oilfield work in the Western States area. He then retired, due to a stroke. Traveling then became an enjoyable pastime. In February, 1989, he moved to St. David, where he remained until his death. He leaves his wife, Betty Gray of St. David, and children, Marie Kettle, Craig, Norma Abele, Quartz Hill, Calif., Bill Gray, Hayden, Jan Westring, Saratoga, Wyo., two brothers, Floyd and Zane Gray, both of Vernal, Utah, nine grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
