Eugene "Gene" Stricklan August 27, 1936 - October 15, 2018
Gene left this earth to join his Lord on October 15, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center. He was born in Salmon, Idaho to Frank Stricklan and Marie Chaffin Stricklan. The family moved to Grand Junction in 1945 and to Collbran in 1950. Gene graduated from Collbran High School in 1954, and joined the Navy, where he served in San Diego and Pearl Harbor on a sub tender. After his service, he returned to Grand Junction and began his career as a heavy equipment mechanic. He first worked for Grand Junction Steel where he fabricated steel used in the Plateau Valley School. Next he helped build Vega Reservoir and the South Side Canal. He worked construction in many different states, including the Aleutian Islands and Prudhoe Bay, AK where he helped build the Alaskan Pipeline. He "retired" in 1999 and moved back to Collbran, where he spent the next 18 years as busy as ever, repairing ATVs, snowmobiles and anything else that needed it, gathering firewood for church members, and guiding at Wallace’s hunting camp. He was always willing to help a neighbor in need. He also stayed busy for several years restoring a 1971 Ford Bronco. Gene loved camping with his family, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, traveling, riding ATVs, and riding horses and mules. He was an active member of the Grace Bible Church in Collbran. He was a loving husband and father, and was very proud of his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; daughter, Lori (Bret) Guillory; son, Kent (Lori) Stricklan; daughter, Kay (Jim) Malloy; sister, Frances (LeRoy) Bauman; grandsons, Todd (Kortnie) Stricklan, Scott (Ariel) Stricklan, Peter (Christina) Malloy, Brian Malloy, and Jared Guillory, and three greatgranddaughters. Services will be held on Saturday, October 20, at 11:00 a.m. in the Collbran Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to HopeWest, 3090B N. 12th St., Grand Junction, 81506.

Eugene Lee Stricklan, 82, Collbran, died Oct. 15, 2018, at HopeWest Hospice. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Collbran Auditorium. He was a diesel mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Helen; one son, Kent of Collbran; two daughters, Lori Guillory of Grand Junction and Kay Malloy of North Grafton, Massachusetts; one sister, Frances Bauman of Yakima, Washington; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
